Micro chipping HIV+ patients in ANY country is a dangerous !!If goverments start doing this,WHO will want to be tested for HIV-AIDs?This can & will set the whole movement back 20 yrs.We have made huge strides in finding meds to fight the hiv virus.Sure we still have a very long way to go,but,we must keep our faith strong & our hope alive,Trust in GOD & we will survive & thrive!Being HIV+ myself,not only is this AGAINST my religeon & beliefs,(666=number of the beast hand or forhead)but i believe this is setting a dangerous precedent.We MUST NOT allow micro-chipping of anyone,let alone those suffering from HIV-Aids.Where is the compassion here?Empathy?Peoples living with hiv are our sisters & brothers,fathers,mothers,aunts & uncles,grandpa's & grandma's!Will we wage WAR on them just because they smoke weed to help stop the nasea,vomiting,pain & generally make life alot easier to live with HIV-AIDs.PEACE N LOVE NOT WARS N WALLS EH FOLS!!!

Its hard to believe but life is starting to look good again.The recent loss of my mom was tough,death is never easy for anyone,not even professional soldiers come out of a battle whole.Its serious stuff.I really dont think that the army takes this into account before releasing the men that have killed & watched his close buds being maimed & killed off.Theres so much we need to fix,its overwhelming to say the least!But baby steps,every adventure or journey starts with the first step,I am taking small steps now but hope to start getting bigger when i am more learned!My dream is to take 10-15 PHA's across canada doing Harm Reduction STD testing,condom & safe sex promotion.We would all have cams of course so we could make a documentary out of it to help raise even more funds!!!Well peace n love folks & GODBLESS all PHA`WARRIORS!!!

Well outreach is going ok,& i am down to 42 hours left to work off & 1 3/4 to do it in!So i will have them almost completed by the next time we are scheduled to meet,june 20.I havent done any talks in awhile & wish there were more of them i could do!I know theres other PHA SPEAKERS AS well,but still i think we should be more actively involved in our ASO's.Maybe its getting too top heavey,i think.My bro & i R not talking anymore & thats fine as i have had enough of his shit.Have a nice life Gary !I forgive & forget!!!PEACE ,LOVE & happiness to u all!!!!

Oy mate!Glad to have ya aboard!Sounds australian but looks canadian eh!The Leadership Training Program started by Thomas Egdorf of OAN has been a great learning & growing experience for myself & many others across ontario.In 2 weeks we will be meeting in TO.& will be assiting others doing presentations on various subjects,all relating to hiv of course.Sadly i have seen the services of ASOs declineing steadily over the last few yrs.The leadership training is a good program & the communities are starting to see the benefits as HIV support groups R starting up in most cities,& PHAs R becoming more empowered to help themselves .I strongly encourage ANY & ALL PHAs to BLOG,VLOG,VIDEO's,SCREAM N YELL IF U MUST!BUT BREAK THE SILENCE & START YOUR ATTACK AGAINST HIV-AIDS TODAY!!!Keep a diary on what & how living with HIV is like on a daily basis!If we start enough "front lines" of attack we can win this war on stigma& discrimination together!!!

The 76-year-old reporter spent part of Friday morning at Insite, Vancouver's safe injection site. Insite has provided a safe haven for drug addicts in the area since it began as a pilot project in 2003. It allows them to safely inject drugs and get health and addiction services.
Why Canada’s drug policy won’t check addiction "Canada’s anti-drug strategy a failure, study suggests,” read the headline of a brief cbc story that circulated through a handful of news outlets before dying out early this year. The British Columbia Centre for Excellence in HIV/aids had just published a paper revealing that almost three-quarters of the $368 million allocated to Canada’s Drug Strategy in 2004–2005 was spent on enforcement initiatives aimed at staunching the supply of drugs.

The Conservative government has taken another big step in its ideological drive for a "tough on crime" law and order agenda.
This time it's Bill C-26, an Act to amend the Controlled Drug and Substances Act, "to provide minimum penalties for serious drug offences", introduced in the House of Commons November 21. It will make George W. Bush very happy. He will know that at least Stephen Harper is following his lead. The Bill has all the dirty hallmarks of the so called "war on drugs" that has been raging in the United Sates for close to 40 years, successfully destroying millions of lives and communities, as the federal prison population swells to 2.1 million people, over half of whom are there for drug offences.
As in the U.S., the rhetoric and spin on this Bill are the same, playing on fears of drug pushers, especially regarding youth, as the Bill promises to get tough on traffickers and dealers, and to protect our children in and around school premises. The Bill will bring in Minimum Mandatory Sentences (MMs), including for marijuana, and claims to target almost exclusively organized crime and big time traffickers.
The only problem is, as history and reality shows us, this heavy handed reliance on law enforcement is not only a failure; it is a colossal failure, economically, socially, and culturally. Law enforcement regarding drugs typically targets low level dealers and users, and ironically re-enforces the monopoly of organized crime and the drug kingpins, who either escape enforcement or are in the best position to negotiate deals.
In 1994, 28% of Canadians reported they had used illicit drugs. By 2004 the percentage had risen to 45. Clearly enforcement has had little or no impact; quite the contrary, in fact, as drug use has increased.
Canada spends 73% of its drug policy budget on enforcement, compared to treatment (14%), research (7%), prevention (2.6%), and harm reduction (2.6%).
Like the U.S., the Conservative government is hell bent on the dogma of MMs, even though all the evidence shows they are not a deterrent for drug crimes. A 2002 Justice Department report concluded that MMs are least effective in relation to drug offences. And in the U.S., where MMs gained enormous prominence when they were introduced in the mid 1980s, the American Bar Association, the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and the Sates of Michigan, California, Delaware, and Massachusetts, have all either repealed or are calling for the repeal of MMs.
To make matters worse, the Conservative government has reached out and extended its illogical dogma to successful harm reduction programs, like InSite in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. The only safe injection site in North America, InSite has saved many lives, and proven itself over and over to be a key component in helping people who are in desperate circumstances. Ignoring results based evidence and over 25 scientific studies, the Conservatives refuse to recognize the importance of InSite and other Harm Reduction programs that have quietly and effectively operated with minimal funds and support. The 2007 Conservative budget made it pretty clear - harm reduction won't get their support, and they will go to any lengths to cut it out. In their recently announced anti-drug strategy, it becomes clearer still that enforcement is the primary focus.
So why this concerted and radical effort by the Conservative government to ignore clear evidence about what works and what doesn't when it comes to drug policy? Why are they so willing to spend obscene amounts of money on a completely failed strategy, knowing that it won't deter drug use, and in fact with MMs will completely overwhelm the justice system and provincial prisons, and exacerbate already harmful and dangerous rates of HIV/AIDS in the prison population? Why are they so eager to follow a policy that so clearly and cruelly targets poor people and racial minorities (as has exactly been happening in the U.S.)?
The answer, I believe, is that they actually don't care about illicit drugs and the impact of almost 100 years of prohibition policies. They don't care about the massive costs both human and fiscal, and they don't really care that the war on drugs is a war on poor people who become more and more criminalized and penalized and robbed of their future. Nor do they care about developing safe and healthy communities free of the impacts of a drug war now out of control.
What they do care about, and what they are intent on doing, is exploiting the real fears people have about crime, drugs, and safety for political gain and advantage. It is eminently easier for this government to put drug dealers in jail than to implement a national housing strategy.
It’s called the politics of fear. And it’s very powerful and plays to the Conservative base and, they hope, to the moderate middle class. It scapegoats people who are poor and marginal, and creates exactly the kind of divide they want - they, the Conservatives, are tough on bad people and crime, and anyone who doesn't agree with them is soft and pro-crime. It’s a simple message, purely political and partisan in nature, and they see it as their ticket to power. The drug war, intricately bound to its companion, the war on terror, both global in nature, has worked and has carried the Bush political agenda. Stephen Harper sees his future wrapped the same way.
Still, there are some breaches in the game plan, as groups like Law Enforce Against Prohibition (LEAP) grow in stature. Made up of former and current law enforcement officials, LEAP challenges the war on drugs and dispels the myths and rot that has set in.
In Canada, there is a growing movement of NGOs and individuals to defeat Harper's war and expose it for what it is - insidious, hateful, ineffective, and a waste of money. Let's not forget Harper wanted to close InSite, period. But he couldn't, at least not for now, because of broad public support.
Still, Bill C-26 is a serious problem and there will be serious consequences for our Justice system and local communities if it is implemented.
I hope that won't happen.
It makes better sense to focus on sound public policy, understanding the harms of drug prohibition itself, and to direct public resources to the building blocks for healthy individuals and communities - good housing, good jobs, clean air, early childhood development, and education, to name a few of the essentials.
Let's finally accept that drug use, both what is deemed legal and illegal, has always existed, and that the best policy is to provide realistic and honest education about substances that can be harmful, and provide help where needed for addictions and misuse.
Let's focus on regulation as a model, not outright prohibition, which is no deterrence at all.
Let's embark on a common sense approach and accept the overwhelming evidence that the war on drugs has caused more death, pain, harm and crime than we can bear, and that it’s time to stop it.

Canadians who are prescribed marijuana to treat their illnesses will no longer be forced to rely on the federal government as a supplier following a Federal Court ruling that struck down a key restriction in Ottawa's controversial medical marijuana program.


The decision by Judge Barry Strayer, released late Thursday, essentially grants medical marijuana users more freedom in picking their own grower and allows growers to supply the drug to more than one patient.


It's also another blow to the federal government, whose attempts to tightly control access to medical marijuana have prompted numerous court challenges.


Currently, medical users can grow their own pot but growers can't supply the drug to more than one user at a time.


Lawyers for medical users argued that restriction effectively established Health Canada as the country's sole legal provider of medical marijuana.


They also said the restriction was unfair, and that it prevented seriously ill Canadians from obtaining the drug they needed to treat their debilitating illnesses.


In his decision, Strayer called the provision unconstitutional and arbitrary, as it "caused individuals a major difficulty with access…"

Ottawa must also reconsider requests made by a group of medical users who brought the matter to court to have a single outside supplier as their designated producer, Strayer said in his 23-page decision.

While the government has argued that medical users who can't grow their own marijuana can obtain it from its contract manufacturer, fewer than 20 per cent of patients actually use the government's supply, Strayer wrote.


"In my view it is not tenable for the government, consistently with the right established in other courts for qualified medical users to have reasonable access to marijuana, to force them either to buy from the government contractor, grow their own or be limited to the unnecessarily restrictive system of designated producers," he wrote.

Ron Marzel, a Toronto lawyer representing the group of medical users who brought the matter before the Federal Court, called the decision a "great remedy" for his clients.


"All this means is that the limit — the one-to-one ratio — it's the last nail in the coffin for that ratio," he said in an interview.


"The court has said, 'Look, unequivocally, this is unconstitutional, it's arbitrary. All the reasons you've provided us with so far for this one-to-one ratio, they don't pass muster. We don't buy it, we don't accept it."'

The provision had been struck down by the courts before, but was reinstated by the government who contracted Prairie Plant Systems Inc. in Flin Flon, Man., to provide the drug to patients./As a PHA that has to use pot in order to eat- i face RED TAPE & beaurocratic BS. by Drs the refuse to help,politicians throw their hands in the air & do nothing!!! i think the CAS should mandate that 1)pot access for patients, & subsidizing $ spent on medical pot-or reimbursing us at tax time~~!!!Housing is another big issue that need attention.PEACE N LOVE NOT WARS N WALLS EH FOLKS!!!!
